I have been a teary mess this morning, saying my goodbyes to my flatmates and quietly shedding tears in the comfort of my room. Today it just hit me like a tonne of bricks...I am leaving London and the adventure is over, for now.
Reflecting back on the past year and a half, I have experienced the highs of travelling to a European city almost every weekend, cramming in as many galleries and museums in London, moving to a completely foreign country on my own and starting on a clean slate, having to rent and pay bills for the first time (yes I had it good in Melbourne) and developing into a (hopefully) confident, mature person as well. That's just the tip of the iceberg. You might ask me why I'm crying when I'm going back to sunny, warm weather and the comfort of friends. I do look at the bright side of things but realising what I am leaving behind makes me feel so sad. What I fear is returning to that normality back home and being stuck there as I was before I left.
I have plans in the works for 2010 that I am yet to discuss with my family...and longer term plans for the future too. The house, kids and marriage factors are completely out of my sphere at the moment and I want to take the next few years to focus, reflect and live my dream. Life is too short and I have made myself a promise that I will continue living every moment like it's my last, no matter where in the world I am.
Thank you to all of the amazing people I have met in my 18 month antipodean journey...you have truly made it the best years of my life and I am forever grateful. It's goodbye for now.
